The fourth annual Curl-O-Rama charity curling event was held Saturday, February 17th, 2007 at the National Capital Curling Center.

All proceeds went to to benefit The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research and The United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation.

These two charities are doing important work, and they can use every dollar we raised.

What is Curling?

Curling dates to the 16th century, when Scottish farmers whiled away dull, icy winters by sliding heavy granite stones across frozen lochs. This was considered a really good time. Curling first appeared as a demonstration sport in the Olympic Winter Games in Chamonix, France, in 1924. Curling made its Olympic medal debut at the 1998 Games in Nagano, Japan.

The modern curling stone is made of highly polished granite, concave on the bottom, allowing the stone to slide down the ice and “curl” more than if it had a flat surface. A plastic handle is bolted onto every stone in order to deliver and release it. The game is played between two four-member teams who use stones with different colored handles.

No prior experience is necessary to participate in the charity event.
